Interview with Som Prasad Pandey Minister for Industry
According to Bhanubhakta Dhakal, the chief whip of CPN-UML, the meeting was mainly about scheduling the business of the upcoming session, including the dates for presentation of government's policy and programs and pre-budget discussions. "A meeting on Sunday will finalize the House business after consulting respective parliamentary party leaders," said Dhakal. He also informed that the meeting also decided to consult with the top leaders of all parties on finalizing the parliamentary regulation. The parliamentary regulation drafting committee is scheduled to meet on May 2. Earlier, Speaker Gharti met Nepali Congress Chairman and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday at his residence. At the meeting, the speaker urged Deuba to seek ways to settle disputes regarding the parliamentary regulation, while Deuba opined that the parliamentary hearing committee should get continuity as other House committees are continued as per transitional provisions. On Thursday, Speaker Gharti met with PM Oli and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and urged the leaders to settle the disputes and support the regulation drafting committee in finalizing the regulations. The ruling party, CPN-UML, and the main opposition, Nepali Congress, are at loggerheads over the size of parliamentary hearing committee. While the ruling CPN-UML has been arguing that the hearing committee should have 15 members in line with the new constitution, the opposition has been arguing in favor of giving continuity to the existing 73-member committee.
