Kathmandu Holds Candlelight Vigil on Anniversary of Nepal Earthquake

People gathered in Kathmandu’s Durbar Square for a candlelight vigil on Sunday, April 24, around a year after a deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake and aftershocks hit Nepal in April, 2015. This video shows the vigil. Vigil-goers arranged candles to recreate Kathmandu’s Dharahara tower, which was destroyed in the 2015 quake. More than 9,000 people were killed, 21,000 injured and hundreds of thousands of Nepalis were left homeless by the devastating earthquake. Tens of thousands of Nepalis remain homeless after political disputes have delayed the start of the rebuilding process.
