Issue of the Day with Dev Gurung

UCPN-Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Saturday he will take responsibility for incidents that took place during the decade-long insurgency, in the capacity of supreme commander of the Maoist people’s liberation army (PLA). He said this while speaking at a press conference that Revolutionary Journalists’ Association (Dang) had organised. Dahal stressed the need to settle insurgency-era cases on the basis of principles of transitional justice. He said he has no objection to whatever Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Inquiry Commission on Forced Disappearances has been doing. “In fact, we the Maoists needed TRC and inquiry commission on disappearances. Complaints were lodged against us during the people’s war,” he said, appealing not only the Maoists, but all Nepali peoples to lodge complaints related to incidents that took place during the war. Dahal stressed the need to turn the present government into a national consensus government by bringing the Nepali Congress and the United Democratic Madheshi Front on board. Instead of toppling this government, I am trying to bring different parties on board, he said. RSS
