China's Xi stresses Communist leadership over religion

A Chinese leader gracing the covers of major western publications used to draw wild cheers from the country's state media. “Religious groups… must adhere to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC),” Xi told senior party officials at a conference ending on Saturday, the official Xinhua news agency said.
“We must resolutely guard against overseas infiltrations via religious means and prevent ideological infringement by extremists,” Xi was quoted by the official Xinhua News Agency as saying at the two-day meeting, which wrapped up Sunday. “In no way should religions interfere with government administration, judiciary and education,” Xi added.
