Demonstration of the Federal Alliance at Hanumansthan and Maitighar Mandala


Traffic movement in the Capital has been affected due to a demonstration of the Federal Alliance that began this morning. Hundreds of cadres of the Alliance had picketed Singha Darbar, the central government complex, this morning. Cadres of 30 parties associated with the Alliance are protesting at Hanumansthan and Maitighar Mandala, the southeastern and southwestern points outside Singha Darbar respectively. The agitators have demanded rewriting of the Constitution to incorporate their rights.
The Alliance leaders including Rajendra Mahato, Mahendra Yadav, Raj Kishor Yadav among others are staging the protest. However, security personnel are trying to ease the traffic movement in the area. Earlier, the government had urged protesters to organise protests peacefully. Tarai-centric and ethnicity-based parties are protesting against the proposed delineation of the federal units.

Help Dhurmus to Rebuild Giran Chaur by Sitaram Kattel


The comedian duo of Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) and Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali) of the weekly sitcom Meri Bassai were in the US in the middle of a two-and-a-half month tour when the Great Earthquake rattled Nepal on April 25. One week after the quake, the duo—who are also the Sanitation Brand Ambassadors for the Nepal government—were back in Nepal. They had to cancel the remaining scheduled 18 shows, which were meant to raise money for sanitation programmes back home. Since they have been back, they have focused solely on carrying out relief work. The husband and wife have successfully rebuilt Pahari Basti, Danda Gaun, ward no 16, in Kavrepalanchok district, with the help of locals and volunteers by making earthquake-resistant houses for an Integrated Model Village. Gold rush for Nepal's 'Himalayan "Yarsagumba"


Yarsagumba with its Latin name cordyceps sinesis literally means summer plant and winter insect in Tibetan. Before the rainy season begins, spores of the cordyceps mushroom settle on the heads of caterpillars’ that lives underground. The fungus gets so much into the body of the caterpillars’ that it grows out through its head and drains all the energy from the insect and ultimately it dies. Yarsagumba is a unique caterpillar-fungus fusion that occurs when parasitic mushroom spores (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) infect and mummify a ghost moth larva living in the soil. A spindly fungus later sprouts from the dead caterpillar host’s head. Two to six centimeters long, the fungus shoots above the soil, acting as a tiny, finger-shaped flag for harvesters to find. This peculiar hybrid is the world’s most expensive biological resource.
